The First 17 Minutes of 9/11: How America Went From Confusion to Crisis 9/11’s First 17 Minutes: How America Went
On August 5, 2025, just after 1:00 p.m. CDT, an Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) trooper spotted a vehicle believed to be stolen near Sapulpa, occupied by a male driver and two female passengers. The vehicle, possibly stolen was linked to individuals wanted in connection with a murder in Edmond on July 29, 2025. The driver, identified as 31-year-old Colton Beasley, and one passenger, 37-year-old Elizabeth McLendon, are now in custody at the Creek County Jail after a dramatic pursuit.
McClendon and Beasley were present in a motel room in Edmond when a woman stabbed a man to death on July 29. The affidavit states they drove the suspect away from the scene and failed to seek help for the victim. The primary murder suspect claimed to have given the murder weapon to McClendon and Beasley, though both denied possession, and the knife remains unrecovered.
OHP spotted the suspects in a stolen truck near Highway 33 and 111th. Before a traffic stop could be initiated, the driver fled, leading troopers on a chase through rural county roads northwest of Sapulpa. The pursuit ended when a trooper used a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI), previously described as a tactical PIT maneuver, to stop the vehicle in a dead-end area. During the chase, the suspects damaged a resident’s mailbox. Bystanders noted the dead-end road has been a known barrier for years and described the event as unprecedented.
Realizing the dead end, the driver fumbled, allowing the trooper to apprehend Beasley and McLendon safely. A second female passenger was released after being taken into custody. No injuries were reported.
Beasley is being held on a $5 million bond pending transfer to Oklahoma County to face accessory to murder charges. McLendon will also be transported to face similar charges. The incident remains under investigation.
OHP thanked the Creek County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service for their critical assistance, which ensured a safe resolution to the operation.
