Bixby Advances Bond Package Park Improvements and Major Commercial Growth South of the River
Bixby continues to balance rapid residential growth with investments in public facilities, parks, and commercial development. Voters will soon decide on a new bond package, while several quality-of-life and retail projects move forward across the city.
2026 Bond Package Headed to Voters
Bixby residents will vote on August 25 on a proposed 2026 bond package containing four propositions focused on public safety, roads, parks, and sewer infrastructure. City leaders emphasize that the package would not raise taxes.
Proposition 1 includes funding for Bixby’s first city-operated animal shelter, a new South Bixby Fire Station, and an Emergency Operations Center. Additional propositions address street improvements, park enhancements, and sewer capacity. Public information meetings were held in mid-July to explain the projects and answer resident questions.
If approved, the bond package would support facilities and infrastructure needed to keep pace with Bixby’s continued population growth.
Park and Recreation Upgrades Completed
Bentley Park recently opened a new splash pad, playground improvements, pickleball courts, and sand volleyball courts. City officials report strong early attendance and note that the projects responded directly to resident requests. The improvements were funded through a combination of bond proceeds and park funds and came in under $2 million.
Additional park and trail work continues as part of the city’s broader quality-of-life investments.
Commercial Development Accelerates South of the River
South Bixby is seeing significant retail interest. The proposed Spartan Creek development near 151st and Memorial is planned to bring nearly 40 national brands, including grocery, dining, and retail options. Separately, Walmart has advanced plans for two locations in the area, including a next-generation store concept near 151st and Kimberly Clark Road that would feature higher-end shopping experiences and a convenience-store fuel component.
City economic development staff estimate that the combination of Spartan Creek and the Walmart projects could generate 800 to 1,000 new jobs while capturing more local retail spending that currently leaves the community.
Infrastructure Work Continues
Ongoing city projects include street repairs in the downtown CIRP program, various water and sewer upgrades, and design work on road widenings such as the 131st & Memorial to Mingo corridor. Several smaller construction projects, including parking lot and lagoon work, are nearing completion this summer.
Bixby officials have also publicly clarified that no data center proposal is currently under consideration within city limits, addressing earlier speculation.
Taken together, the upcoming bond election, completed park amenities, and growing commercial pipeline position Bixby to continue managing growth while expanding both daily services and local shopping options for residents.
